PortraitWorks automatically combines professionally hand-drawn artwork of weapons, armor, gear, clothing, hairstyles and facial features to create unique character portraits. The app and expansions include thousands of artwork elements, most of which can be combined with other elements to create nearly unlimited unique portraits. Because our artwork elements were hand-drawn, the final portraits also look hand-drawn, not computer generated.

PortraitWorks does include pre-made portraits, but it is much, much more than just a gallery. All portraits in PortraitWorks can be fully edited and customized.
The Gallery displays a collection of pre-made portraits created by our team. You can use these portraits “as is” or press the Edit button to customize any of these portraits to match your vision of your character.
The Create feature creates truly unique portraits from scratch every time by programatically combining artwork of weapons, armor, gear, clothing, gear, and individual facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, etc.). Any of these portraits can then be fully customized.

PortraitWorks supports a broad and inclusive range of player and non-player races and classes for fantasy games such as D&D, Pathfinder, and more.
The best way to understand what PortraitWorks can draw is to download the free app and give it a try.
-
PortraitWorks is 100% usable offline when you’re not connected to the Internet.
-
PortraitWorks is currently only available as a mobile app for iOS and Android.
-
You can use the app for free to explore as much as you want.
Exporting portraits that you create or edit requires the “Unlock Export” in-app purchase.
There are no subscription or per-portrait fees – once you buy an expansion, you can make as many portraits with it as you like. If you wish to use your portraits for profit, the Publisher License is available for $299.
-
You are welcome to post the portraits you create to social media, YouTube, Twitch streams, use them in your personal game campaigns, as avatars for online play, etc. You can also distribute derived works, such as doing additional work yourself to a portrait with Photoshop.
You may not distribute content from PortraitWorks as individual pieces, or use the artwork to create or distribute any related product which allows users to select, create or customize portraits.
The Publisher License, which is available from the in-app Store, grants you the right to sell something that includes a portrait, such as a book or adventure module, whether in print or digital form. A good rule of thumb: If it’s for profit, you need the Publisher license.

By default, you can export in 600x600 pixel resolution; by downloading the HD content, you can export at 1200x1200 px resolution.
Images with solid backgrounds are exported as JPEG; those with transparent or backgrounds are PNG.
Exporting requires unlocking the Export feature. (It is also enabled if you previously purchased other expansions or kickstarted / pre-ordered prior to launch).

Portrait Codes are shortcuts to access specific pre-made portraits in the Basic Select screen. Each portrait on Basic Select has a unique 5-digit code, which you can see underneath it by tapping Portrait Code.
If you see a Portrait Code somewhere, such as in the Foundry VTT, on a website, or in an adventure module, you can tap Portrait Code in Basic Select and enter that code to jump directly to that specific portrait.
Please note that if you edit a portrait, entering the Portrait Code will take you back to the original, unedited version of the portrait, not the edited version.
Portraits in Advanced Select do not have portrait codes.
