Is there a monthly or yearly subscription cost, or a cost per portrait?
No. Once you have purchased the application, you can make as many portraits as you like.
I backed the app on Kickstarter or Pre-order. How do I unlock my rewards in the 1.0 public app?
Just go to Settings / Previous Rewards and follow the directions; it will activate your previous rewards.
Does the app work offline?
Yes, PortraitWorks works offline when you’re not connected to the Internet.
Can I use PortraitWorks on my computer, or on a website?
Not currently. The considerable majority of people we surveyed were more interested in a mobile app for portability and instant access, so that’s what we have created for version 1.
Where can I get more info and help?
What can I do with the portraits I create?
You are welcome to post the portraits you create to your Facebook page, YouTube videos, Twitch streams, use them in your personal game campaigns, as avatars for online play, etc. You can also distribute derived works, such as doing additional work yourself to a portrait with Photoshop.
You may not distribute content from PortraitWorks as individual pieces, or use the artwork to create or distribute any related product which allows users to select, create or customize portraits.
The Publisher License, available on the app’s Store screen, grants you right to sell something that includes a portrait, such as a book or adventure module, whether in print or digital form. A good rule of thumb: If it’s for profit, you need the Publisher license.
Is this just a collection of pre-made portraits?
No. PortraitWorks creates unique portraits by combining professionally hand-illustrated weapons, armor, gear, clothing, gear, and individual facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, etc.)
Basic Select in the app starts with a collection of pre-made portraits we have curated, which you can use as a starting point for your own works. You can change any of the elements until it matches your own vision.
Advanced Select creates a unique portrait from scratch every time.
Does this replace the need for artists?
No. If you are able to commission an artist, or draw a portrait yourself, we highly encourage you to do so! But if you can’t or don’t want to (or don't have the time!), we hope PortraitWorks is helpful for you. And even when commissioning artwork from an artist, first using PortraitWorks is a great way to provide your artist with a rough draft of your character as a starting point.
